You're invited! This July, Cultivated is proud to partner with The Green Design Hub for a collaborative sustainability exhibition at the Decor + Design show, from 13-16 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
More than ever consumers are looking for interior products developed with a conscious, which have a low environmental impact and that offer timeless and long lasting design.
Spread over 4 days, and with an expected 11,000 attendees, The Green Design Hub will bring these products to the forefront giving the public access to sustainable interior solutions in an easy, informative way.
At the Green Design Hub, Cultivated will be exhibiting the iconic Swan chair designed by Arne Jacobsen, which has been manufactured by Danish brand Fritz Hansen since its creation in 1958.
The particular chair in our collection was owned by Melbourne based designer, Leigh Ellwood, who used the Cultivated program to rehome their Swan chair and purchased a refurbished Fritz Hansen PK22 in its place.
The Swan chair undergoing 2.5 hours of precision hand stitching in the Cultivated workshop.
Experiencing a full restoration, the Swan chair had all of its existing upholstery and degraded foam removed and replaced to ensure a long second life. The new upholstery used was the 100% wool Divina MD from Danish fabric house, Kvadrat, and foams were replaced with GECA certified foams from Dunlop. Waste fabric has been retained for recycing through the TRAKS textiles program. The original base was retained and re-polished.

Commenting on the Swan chair's restoration, original owner, Leigh Ellwood, commented "I only buy the real thing, be it new or vintage. With that you have the assurance of a quality piece that (if required) can be mended or updated. This longevity is better for environmental reasons and respects the designers and makers too. I always remind my clients they they are not just purchasing a quality piece for their only enjoyment but a piece that can be passed on to their children too."
Decor + Design's Green Design Hub will run from the 13th to the 16th of July and Cultivated will be giving a talk on their sustainability journey on Friday the 14th at 3:15pm. The event is being held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
