Mayor Sofa
By Arne Jacobsen & Flemming Lassen
Designed: 1939
History
Originally designed in 1939 by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen for the Søllerød City Hall in Denmark, the Mayor Sofa represents a thoughtful blend of modernist architecture and Danish functionalism. With its upright profile, defined silhouette and tufted seat, the design balances formality with warmth. Reissued by &Tradition, the Mayor Sofa has found renewed relevance in contemporary interiors across both residential and commercial spaces.
This collection was sourced from a café on Sydney Harbour. The sofas showed signs of light use but remained structurally sound, providing a strong foundation for restoration.
Cultivated
Each Mayor Sofa is restored with care and respect for its original design. The solid timber base is sanded and refinished in either a natural or stained finish, depending on the client’s preference. The seat and backrest are reupholstered in a fabric chosen by the customer, offering an opportunity to tailor the piece to its next environment. The result is a beautifully renewed sofa that balances heritage design with contemporary customisation.
&Tradition

Their pieces are built to endure, making them ideal candidates for restoration and circular re-use through Cultivated.
