LCW
By Charles Eames
Designed:1946
History
First released in 1946, the LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) is one of the most celebrated outcomes of Charles and Ray Eames’ exploration into moulded plywood. Its sculptural form and low, relaxed posture quickly made it a symbol of post-war modernism.
This chair came to us from a commercial office client based in Melbourne’s Docklands. Originally manufactured in 2007 and still bearing its identification sticker, a perfect candidate for a second life.
Cultivated
We’ve taken a careful, restorative approach with this piece. Our team begins by photographing the original sticker, preserving its provenance, before gently sanding the timber by hand. Small chips are filled, and the chair is finished in a water-based lacquer that gives it a refreshed appearance without masking its age. Subtle signs of use may remain, but overall the chair is in excellent condition, a respectful blend of restoration and authenticity.
