Series 7 Chair (Lacquered)

By Arne Jacobsen

Designed: 1955

History

First designed in 1955 by Arne Jacobsen, the Series 7 Chair is one of the most successful and enduring furniture designs of the twentieth century. Its fluid silhouette and innovative use of pressure-moulded veneer allowed for a light yet strong form that could be stacked, customised and adapted across countless settings.

This collection of chairs was sourced from a public institution in Sydney, with manufacturing dates ranging from 1981 to 1994. Each piece reflects decades of use in a public setting and carries with it a quiet design legacy that we aim to preserve through careful restoration.

Cultivated

Each chair is assessed and restored with respect to its original construction. The timber shell is gently sanded and resprayed in a colour of the client’s choosing using a high quality, water-based lacquer. This process allows each piece to be tailored to its new environment while retaining the character of the original design. Chrome bases are cleaned and polished, with worn glides replaced as needed. The result is a refreshed, durable chair ready for continued use in contemporary spaces.
